
Kate McElderry, MA ISD, is a published author and educator who believes storytelling is an essential part of shared humanity. Based in Baltimore County, Maryland, Kate is a faculty member at The Odyssey School. She is Director of Outreach and a classroom teacher for students with dyslexia and ADHD. Kate is neurodiverse herself and knows the advantages and challenges that can come from neurodivergence. As an educational advocate, she is poised to write about neurodiverse characters and themes into both fiction and non-fiction work. Kate has been teaching, speaking, and conducting workshops locally and internationally on evidence-based practices in education, neurodiversity, journaling and mindfulness, creativity, and more for nearly three decades.
Kate is a member of several writing guilds and has presented at numerous learning summits, seminars, conferences, schools, universities, and libraries, including, Baltimore County Library, European Dyslexia Association, American University, Oxford University, Towson University, and more.
Over her career, Kate has served on educational boards and taught a range of ages at a variety of institutions, including University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) as a graduate teaching assistant in the education department. As a Peace Corps Volunteer and Coordinator in Paraguay, she taught and wrote published curricula. Kate enjoys spending summers on creative endeavors, writing and sharing her poetry and prose at literary events.
Kate’s coming-of-age story, Declan Someone (The Journey of Declan Noone) is scheduled for release Spring 2026 by Foreshore Books imprint of Foreshore Publishing: ISBN: 978-1-9192526-1-2.
